Goku or Vegeta?
Goku or Vegeta. This is also a topic that most DBZ fans will argue over. Who is better overall? Why do Goku fans seem to hate Vegeta so much and why do Vegeta fans seem to hate Goku so much? In this section I will try to reveal why. Please keep in mind that these are my own ponderings and thoughts and that none of the reasons are nessisarily true. :)
Goku fans usually like Goku for his easy-going personality as well as somewhat goofy ways and heroic stance. Being the ultimate fighter also helps as well and the fact that he's the main character of every DragonBall series. Goku fans have watched Goku change over time and grow up to become a father and a husband. They've seen him defeat villian after villian and even give villians a chance. But why is it that Goku fans seem to hate Vegeta so much?
- A bad attitude, slightly dark personality, and not the least bit heroic (until the end of the series), Vegeta is just the opposite of Goku. The fact that he is so opposite of Goku probably makes Goku fans dislike Vegeta as well as the fact that Vegeta most often will and has talked bad of Goku and hated him from the very beginning.
- Another possible reason could be, although I'm not entirely sure, is that when Vegeta was introduced to the show and reappeared after being killed by Freeza, he become one of the main characters of DragonBall Z. Maybe it's that Goku fans don't like the fact that Vegeta "stole" some of Goku's spotlight. (After all, fans of Goku in Japan got mad after Akira Toriyama made a proposal to make Gohan the main character of the series.)
- Throughout the DragonBall Z series, Vegeta has been trying to catch up with Goku and overpower him, even to the point of killing him. Often of time he goes on about how he wishes to defeat Goku and will accomplish such one day. A lot of Goku fanatics hate this about Vegeta and most come back with things saying that Vegeta is a "whimp" and a "complainer".
What turns Vegeta's fans on is most often is the bad attitude and development as a character that Vegeta goes through throughout the series. Some even like the fact that he does not like Goku. (Well, until the end of the series that is.) The fact that he is a bit "smarter" than Goku also helps. But why do Vegeta fans seem to hate Goku?
- Vegeta is one of the many or few (however you look at it) characters in the show who evolved. First starting out at as a villian, as time went on, the saiyajin prince switched sides and became a good guy as well as a father and husband. The fact that he changed throughout the series is one reason Vegeta fans like Vegeta. Vegeta, unlike Goku who pretty much stayed the same throughout every series, changed.
- Another reason is that Vegeta never seems to get past Goku's level throughout all of the DragonBall series. There are times when the prince will catch up to his formal foe but it is most often that he will get left behind by Goku's power level. Many Vegeta fans would like to see the tables turned and have Vegeta catch up to or beat Goku. - Lastly, Vegeta fans sometimes feel like Vegeta gets left out and doesn't get as much air time as he should, unlike Goku who gets a whole lot of it.
If I had to choose between both saiyajins, I would have to go with Vegeta. For some reason, I'm usually attracted to the more dynamic or changing characters of shows. I also love Vegeta's personality and how it develops over time without changing completely. However, I am not a hater of Goku. Goku is loved by me in his own little way. ^^; I don't usually go for the main characters of shows, but there's just something about Goku that I love. Pure hearted, goofy, and fun-going, Goku always makes me laugh with the strange things he sometimes says and does. Overall, I love both saiyajins dearly and when they are together, it always makes for an interesting time. XD
